Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX), in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Radiosurgery (IRCA), has opened registration for the 9th Edition of the Continuing Education Master’s Program in Central Nervous System Radiosurgery, a leading program designed for physicians and healthcare professionals who wish to specialize in one of the most advanced areas of neuroscience.
Led by Prof. Dr. Kita Sallabanda, an international authority in neurosurgery and radiosurgery, this program provides the theoretical and practical training necessary to plan and perform radiosurgery treatments of the central nervous system in accordance with international standards of quality, safety, and clinical practice.
Nine Cohorts Training Specialists in Radiosurgery
After eight successful cohorts, the Continuing Education Master’s Program in Central Nervous System Radiosurgery has established itself as a leading program for professionals from Spain, Europe, Latin America, and other countries interested in acquiring highly specialized training.
The 9th Cohort will begin in November 2026 and end in May 2027, lasting 6 months, with a course load of 60 official ECTS credits and a blended learning format.

Training Focused on Clinical Practice
Radiosurgery is a minimally invasive technique that allows for the highly precise treatment of tumorous, vascular, and functional disorders of the central nervous system, offering excellent clinical results and improving patients’ quality of life.

Furthermore, the master’s program provides highly specialized knowledge that is not typically part of conventional academic training, enabling students to gain a comprehensive understanding of radiosurgery from clinical, technological, and scientific perspectives.
Hands-on Training in the Leading Radiosurgery Systems
One of the program’s key distinguishing features is that it offers hands-on, comparative training on the leading radiosurgery technologies currently in use worldwide.
The practical training takes place both at the facilities of IRCA (Institute of Advanced Radiosurgery), located at Viamed Santa Elena Hospital in Madrid, and at other leading centers where students complete their training using different technological platforms.
During the master’s program, participants will have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience with the clinical applications, indications, and characteristics of technologies such as:
- ZAP-X, at IRCA.
- Gamma Knife, at Ruber Internacional Hospital.
- CyberKnife, at HM Hospitales.
- Proton therapy, at QuirĂłnsalud Hospital.
In addition, the program covers the principles and applications of linear accelerators (LINACs) adapted for radiosurgery, offering a comprehensive overview of the various technological options available.
Few training programs allow students to learn about and compare, within a single curriculum, the main radiosurgery platforms currently used in clinical practice. This comprehensive overview provides students with objective, independent training aligned with the clinical reality of international reference centers.
Academic Director: Prof. Dr. Kita Sallabanda
The academic director of the master’s program is Prof. Dr. Kita Sallabanda, medical director of IRCA and one of the most recognized figures in international radiosurgery.
As the author of the only book on radiosurgery published in Spanish, he has an extensive clinical and teaching career, having treated more than 5,000 patients with radiosurgery and worked with the leading systems available internationally, including Gamma Knife, CyberKnife, LINAC, and ZAP-X.
His experience in patient care, research, and teaching, combined with his commitment to training new specialists, makes this program a unique opportunity to learn from one of the field’s leading authorities.
