🩺 Academic background
I completed my MIR training in Radiation Oncology at the Hospital 12 de Octubre in 1998. I worked as a FEA at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital between 1999 and 2012. During this period I had a special dedication to advanced techniques such as SBRT, being a founding member of the Spanish SBRT group and its national coordinator until 2015, being responsible for its implementation in this hospital. In addition, I obtained my degree of Doctor of Medicine in 2005 from the Complutense University of Madrid. In 2005 I started my private activity with the IMO group as Coordinator of the Tomotherapy Unit, being a national pioneer in the implementation of this technology until 2009.🩺Work Experience
In December 2012, I became Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at the General Hospital of Ciudad Real until June 2015. During this period I set up the Tomotherapy and High Dose Rate Brachytherapy Unit for prostate and breast cancer, being a benchmark in advanced techniques in the Castilla-La Mancha region. In addition, I complemented my training in clinical management by completing the Master's Degree in Administration and Management of Health Services at the Pompeu Fabra University (2013-14). I also began my teaching experience as an Honorary Collaborator and Associate Professor in the subjects of Radiology and Physical Therapeutics, and Onco-Hematology in the Degree of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of UCLM (2012-2015). In November 2014 I was appointed member of the National Commission of Radiation Oncology, representing the Human Resources Commission of the National Health System. In July 2015 I joined the Hospital Universitario La Paz as Head of Section and in December 2016 I became Head of Service, a position I still hold today. In this centre, I have maintained an innovative attitude with the renewal of technological equipment and the implementation of pioneering techniques such as magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy, operating since December 2021 as the only centre at national level and with few units operating at European and world level, as well as the forthcoming incorporation of a Protontherapy Unit, which positions us as the Service with the best technological equipment at national level. During this period, I have also improved my training in clinical management with the completion of the XIX Senior Management Programme in Health Institutions, IESE Business School, University of Navarra (2019). During this time, the Radiation Oncology Department at HULP has been a pilot in the implementation of LEAN methodology in clinical management, has abandoned paper with the implementation of the Mosaiq departmental management network connected to the hospital system, has become the first department in this speciality in the Community of Madrid to be certified in its quality management system by the ISO 9001 standard and in patient safety UNE 179003:2013 and risk analysis in radiotherapy for 3D technique (MARR) and in special techniques (MARRTA).🩺 Positions
